Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Specialist

As an orthopaedic expert Michael Flint specialises in primary and revision hip and knee joint replacement. He is a recognised national expert in musculoskeletal tumour surgery.

Michael Flint is an experienced and skilled surgeon and one of the few proponents in New Zealand of Direct Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery,a minimally invasive muscle-sparing technique leading to faster rehabilitation, with less pain and a lower risk of dislocation than standard hip replacement techniques.

He has been involved in the use of computer-assisted surgery for knee joint replacement and is currently investigating the use and potential benefits of robotic-assisted knee joint replacement.

Until recently he was the Clinical Head of the Musculoskeletal Tumour Unit at Middlemore Hospital and the Sarcoma representative on the Ministry of Health Cancer Standards Working Group.
